The Faculty of Surveying and Mapping specializes in topographical surveying and least square adjustment, engineering surveying, mine surveying, geodesy, global positioning system, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geographical information systems, cartography, and land surveying.

More than 6000 engineers have been educated in the faculty. Among them 5300 are full-time engineers, 650 are junior engineers and 50 students pursued their second degree. Reputed as the best place in Vietnam for study geomatics, many graduates from Faculty of Surveying and Mapping currently work as lecturers, professors, and academic staff in surveying departments at the other universities in Vietnam such as University of Civil Engineering, University of Transportation, University of Agriculture, etc.

The current number of students in the faculty is 2000 with around 50 master degree students and 10 PhD research students.

The number of academic staff in Faculty of Geology is 89 with 4 full professors, 10 associate professors, and 21 senior lecturers. International cooperation and partnerships were established between the faculty and a number of international institutions such as Moscow State University of Cartography and Geodesy (Russia), Wuhan University (China), Krakow University (Poland), University of Galve (Sweden), Yonsei University (Korea), etc. Based on these relations, several joint projects have been implemented by the department academic staff.
